AFROPUNK announces M.I.A and Gaika for London debut
It takes place in Alexandra Palace on September 24
AFROPUNK is one of America’s most celebrated music festivals, praised for its commitment to nonconformity and multiculturalism. It's hosted numerous events in Brooklyn over the past decade, and expanded to Paris last year.
Now AFROPUNK has announced plans to organise its first London festival, which will take place in Alexandra Palace on September 24.
M.I.A has been locked in to headline, with further performances from Benjamin Booker, SZA, Gaika, the Word Sound Power trio consisting of Akala, Dreadzone and Don Letts, Ho99o9, Cakes Da Killa, Purple Ferdinand, Youth Man and Vodun
Select DJs from radio stations NTS and Soulection will also play on the day.
An After Dark program including film screenings, comedy shows and art installations is due to be announced soon.
Tickets go on sale from 9am on Friday here.
AFROPUNK’s next Brooklyn event takes place across August 27 to 28 with appearances from TV On The Radio, Ice Cube, Tyler The Creator, Earl Sweatshirt, Flying Lotus, Janelle Monae, George Clinton, Kelela and many more. Check out the festival’s website for further details.
