New venue inside a church opens in Leeds

“Once you’re through the hallowed doors, you’ll be somewhere otherworldly”

A new club is opening on Woodhouse Lane in Leeds, aptly named Church, due to it being located inside a 1700 capacity Church.

Leeds promotions company Back to Basics are the minds behind the venue's nighttime club nights and gigs, and during the day, the space will host food vendors Get Baked and Zest, as well as offering part-time and full-time creative courses to the public.

Church's opening party kicks off September 30, and the likes of Jamie Jones (pictured), Damian Lazarus, Matthias Tanzmann and DJ Deeon will be taking to the decks this season. There will also be a party to celebrate 25 years of Back to Basics events and a special Halloween event included in the programme.

The creative director Dave Beer says: “English clubbing has become substandard with everywhere being the same. There’s no individuality. This is going to be a safe space for all with no attention to detail spared.

“Once you’re through the hallowed doors, you’ll be somewhere otherworldly. Somewhere to express yourself and lose your inhibitions... Expect the unexpected. We are looking forward to giving something back. Come and do your thing, you know the dance. We love you”.
