A history of dance music in 50 photos

Time flies when you're having fun

It's time to open the dance music history books.

History lessons at school weren't that fun, but learning about the electronic music world is certainly nothing to complain to your parents about. Especially when there's a bunch of archival photos involved.

Our collection goes all way the back to the hedonistic disco days at New York club Studio 54 (taken by Richard P. Manning) through to titanic techno festival Time Warp in Germany. In between, we've got snaps of the Fantazia raves in the early '90s, protests against the Criminal Justice Bill (photos taken by Matthew Smith), the beloved Space Ibiza, fabric's early days and raves in East London.

Take a trip back in time with the gallery above.
