A Kickstarter campaign has been launched to get a levitating turntable on the market.

MAG-LEV Audio is looking to change the record-playing game through a drive system and patented technology that uses magnetic levitation and sensor regulating software that ensures a consistent and accurate turning of the platter.

The designers are looking to raise $300,000 to get it in production, with just over $22,000 raised at the time of writing, and hope to have it on the market in September next year.

It comes with a Pro-Ject 8.6 tonearm and Ortofon OM 5E cartridge, while retractable platter feet are installed to allow the platter to rest when the turntable is turned off. There's also an illumination below the platter which "further enhances the visual effects of levitation even when the lights are off."

The product's description reads: "We were searching for a way to give people a better, newer way to experience vinyl records. By pushing the frontier of audio technology, we were able to integrate the uplifting experience of music into the turntable design itself, bringing the feeling of zero gravity into your living room."
