750 people evacuated after blaze rips through German nightclub
The fire broke out at K Club in Kehl, close to the border of France, on Saturday night
Hundreds of people were evacuated from a popular nightclub in southwest Germany over the weekend after a blaze ripped through the venue.
Panic ensued as a fire broke out inside K Club in Kehl, close to the border of France, at around 3:45AM on Saturday, March 28, according to local police.
Around 750 people were reportedly inside the venue at the time, all of whom were able to escape safely after being evacuated. While no one was injured in the blaze, three people were treated on site for shock.
“Following the fire that occurred last night, we are relieved to inform you that everyone present – customers and staff alike – are safe and sound,” the venue assured in a since-released statement on Instagram (translated from French).
“The evacuation was carried out quickly and under the best possible conditions, thanks to the professionalism and responsiveness of our teams, as well as the exemplary behaviour of our customers.”
Though the fire ripped through the entire building, with images and videos showing it in full blaze through the roof of the venue, K Club said that the damage is “purely material”.
According to local German media DPA, around 80 people from both the fire and police departments, as well as emergency medical staffers, attended the scene.
K Club specialises in amapiano, 3-Step, Afro house and dancehall events, recently hosting the likes of Tyler ICU and DJ Phaphane, with a live show from BadGalBamby scheduled in the coming weeks.
