Around 30 people were treated for hypothermia this past weekend at the 2019 edition of Teknival festival in Creuse, France - an unauthorized rave with over 10,000 people in attendance.

Teknival - a roving, hardcore-focused free party that has taken place all over Europe for the past 25 years - is held annually in France at a secret location which is only revealed to its attendees at the very last minute.

Mayor Nathalie Peyrat of the Féniers commune in Central France where the event was held took notice when thousands of revelers began to show up over the weekend and created a number of preventive orders to try and stop the event. These orders allowed police to stop numerous vehicles carrying sound systems from arriving on-site, but it could not stop the event altogether.

The music festival turned from a celebration of free raving into a freezing test of endurance after unexpected snowfall hit the event and sent temperatures plummeting to -3 degrees Celsius (26 degrees Fahrenheit) overnight on Saturday, May 4 to Sunday, May 5.

Festival organizers set up a heating tent - provided by the French Military - at the top of a muddy hill to try and keep the festival's revelers warm before the Red Cross arrived to distribute over 500 survival blankets to the ravers at the scene.

Of the 30 individuals treated for hypothermia, local officials told AFP that two were in such bad condition they had to be taken to the hospital.
