Good vibes are important to Jayda G. Anyone who’s witnessed a set by the Canadian selector will know she always delivers the most soul-warming and life-giving energy to the dancefloor, and in her downtime from touring, she likes to enjoy a similarly contented atmosphere.
By using the IKEA and Sonos SYMFONISK home speaker range, Jayda G fills her home with feeling and makes it the perfect place to re-energise before her next stint spreading joy to the world’s dancefloors.
Jayda welcomed us into her London home recently, where she has SYMFONISK speakers in her bedroom, kitchen, studio and living room. There, she spoke about her love for music in the home and talked us through the tracks she listens to most when she’s there.
“When I turn music on in any room within my house it creates an energy that makes you feel comfortable and warm,” Jayda says.
SYMFONISK’s blend of warming light and crisp sound helps spread this energy throughout the home. Referring to the SYMFONISK table lamp speaker, Jayda says: “What I like is that [it is] both a lamp and a speaker all in one. I always have a lamp on when I’m going to bed, and I always have some music on. I definitely use music to make a home homely. The bedroom needs to feel comfortable and light and happy,” she adds, referring to ‘Dom B. Sensi’ by Those Norwegians. Of course, the other product from the SYMFONISK range is the bookshelf speaker, also delivering on the two-in-one front and being a sleek, practical addition to the home.
Jayda also uses SYMFONISK speakers to help her chill out after a stint of travelling and playing shows. Her living room is the place to switch off, which the smooth sound and slick look of the SYMFONISK range is perfectly suited to: “After coming home from a tour I usually like to vegetate on the couch. I usually put on something like [Larry Heard’s] ‘Summertime Breeze’ or something that is light and happy, but relaxing at the same time. The IKEA SYMFONISK speakers are such a sleek design, it allows you to concentrate more on the music, which is the most important thing.” Another plus for Jayda is that there’s no need to turn devices on or off as she goes from room-to-room, as speakers from the SYMFONISK range can be paired in multiple rooms and controlled via the Sonos app, Apple Airplay 2 or your voice.
In the kitchen she goes for something upbeat, dancing and singing as she cooks, while she looks for a dance-y vibe in her studio to get her in the mood for gigs as she sorts through records. Kerri Chandler’s ‘On My Way’ is a favoured selection for this activity, as she notes: “That track is huge for me. I play it a lot in my sets. I feel like it emulates the kind of feeling that I want my music to emulate, bringing the audience together”.
