Ten sets you need to see at Creamfields
From Adam Beyer to Kurupt FM, stick this lot on your festival agenda
It's not long until Creamfields arrives in Daresbury, Cheshire again, once more delivering three days - August 28 to 30 - of huge artists from the world of dance music. This year there are arenas from Jamie Jones' Paradise, Ibiza party Ants, MK and a load more. Plus we're setting up The Lab in Smirnoff House, hosting unique sets from a handful of DJs and bringing an intimate house party vibe to the festival. Here we pick out 10 sets we reckon you should check out over the three days, including a few from our party.
1 Rebel Sound
Did you see the damage this lot - David Rodigan, Chase & Status, Shy FX and MC Rage - did at the Red Bull Culture Clash last year? They even got broadcast legend Trevor McDonald to announce their summer shows after batting away competition from Boy Better Know, A$AP Mob and Stone Love at the Earl's Court sparring session. They head up their own stage on August 28 and you might even get to hear some very speical dubplates they've done with Lily Allen (of Skepta's 'It Ain't Safe), Kano ('Ps & Qs') and...Tom Jones.
2 Andhim
We had this German pair in The Lab LDN back in April and the minute they entered the building with a pile of red foam hands we knew we were in for a good time. A fruity tech house ensured the afternoon party was bumpin' for the duration and it was only last month the Get Physical duo put together an equally sound Essential Mix. Expect much of the same at the All Gone Pete Tong arena on the Saturday and see them spin a bunch of fun-loving 80s tunes at our Smirnoff House party on the Friday.
3 Adam Beyer
If dynamite techno's your cuppa tea, Adam Beyer's the man to serve it to you. The Drumcode boss has just fronted the July issue of Mixmag with wife Ida Engberg and his DJ sets are absolutely devastating, whether he's alongside Ida, going back-to-back with Joseph Capriati or playing solo at Cocoon at Amnesia. He's all by himself at Eric Prydz's Pryda arena and he'll be firing out rounds and rounds of titanium tunes.
4 Logan Sama b2b Slimzee
If you're after a lesson in grime, this is the only class you need to attend. Keepin It Grimy boss Logan Sama and NTS DJ Slimzee are guaranteed to be packing only the gulliest instrumentals and dubs, and with four of the UK's finest MCs - Riko Dan, Flowdan, P Money and Stormzy - in front of them, you'll be screaming for pull ups and rewinds when they play at Mistajam presents Speakerbox on August 29.
5 Mistajam
A Mistajam DJ set is just like a perfectly laid out party buffet. There's all sorts on offer, sweet and savoury, smothering your musical taste buds with a whole host of goodies. Grime, house, hip hop and d'n'b, 'jam's got it all and his BBC 1Xtra selection is stone cold proof. As well as catching him at his Speakerbox arena, come along to Smirnoff House to see the party tunes he's got in his locker.
6 The Martinez Brothers
The cool-as-you-like siblings and last year's Mixmag DJs of the Year join us in The Lab at Smirnoff House to spin some hip hop on Friday, before their usual dose of sizzling house and techno soundtracks the Paradise arena. If their recent trip to The Lab LDN is anything to go by, even two sets in one night won't be enough to appease your Martinez Bros appetite.
7 Dantiez Saunderson
Another DJ and producer in the Saunderson family as Dantiez follows in the footsteps of his old man, Kevin. He's already released on one of the biggest house labels around in Defected Records, with the slick KPD collaboration 'Place Called Home', and his selection on deck is teeming with swagger. See what we mean when he lays it down at MK Area10 on the final day, August 30.
8 The Chemical Brothers
Twenty years since debut album 'Exit Planet Dust', The Chemical Brothers are just as relevant as ever with 'Born In The Echoes' - their eighth LP - arriving this summer. So far we've heard 'Go', 'Under Neon Lights' and 'Sometimes I Feel So Deserted' and all three prove Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons have still got it. They headline the North Stage on the Saturday and you'd be silly to miss it, really.
9 Kurupt FM
It might have started out as laugh via BBC Three sitcom People Just Do Nothing - following fictional west London pirate radio station Kurupt FM - but it's all very real now. They've already appeared on line-ups alongside Newham Generals and DJ EZ, and their DJ sets are flowing with groovin' garage and gritty bass music. Tune in at Speakerbox.
10 Chris Lorenzo
We've backed this Birmingham DJ and producer for a while now, whether it's through his high-energy In Session or his crunching remixes of Keys N Krates' 'Understand Why' and My Nu Leng's 'You've Been Gone'. He's deadly on the decks so gear up for a rowdy workout to some rocket-fueled bass house at Mistajam's Speakerbox.
