Will Silver ‘Falling Theme’ (Silver Bear)

Blistering through rolling drums, a rave-laden bassline and shimmering arcade electronics, Will Silver’s brand new single on Silver Bear Recordings, titled ‘Falling Theme’, is a one-stop-shop for all things UK bass. The breaks cut sees the London-based producer make strides in his productions, with more due to be released at the beginning of 2023 in the form of a full-length EP.

Pearson Sound ‘Freefall’ (Hessle Audio)

Continuing in the theme of falling, the penultimate track on Pearson Sound’s latest EP ‘Red Sky’ comes in the shape of ‘Freefall’, trading a particularly Hessle feel. “Suddenly I’m falling” repeats the spine-chilling sample from Delia Derbyshire and Barry Bermange’s ‘60s BBC radio broadcast about dreams, used and morphed by Pearson Sound atop rumbling 909s and lulling pads.

TIBASKO ‘Hawt’ (Another Rhythm)

If you haven’t heard this in the club yet, then where have you been? A fruity one to say the least, ‘Hawt’ was created with a mission to get you bouncing around the dancefloor. Using that classic M1 organ bass note and ridiculously catchy lyrics, it really proves that TIBASKO have that hot sauce.

Interplanetary Criminal ‘Beat / Work’ (Shall Not Fade)

In classic Interplanetary Criminal style, this UKG hit-maker has mutated an already naughty beat with some tricky effects. Changing itself up throughout with a change of tone halfway through to some more meaty bass, the repetition of lyrics “beat work” sampled on top keeps the track rolling. We’re excited to hear the rest of the EP.

Henzo ‘His Troublesome Knees’ (Nervous Horizon)

Taken from Manchester-based producer Henzo’s Nervous Horizon four-tracker ‘Stretford Blues’, ‘His Troublesome Knees’ is a bold low-tempo heater designed to creep straight into your bones. Melding together a keening bassline wobble with a slow, marching kick — the track utilises juxtaposing tempo in the highs and lows to make something that is somehow simultaneously danceable and unsettling.

TAAHLIAH ‘Fuck It!’ ft. Loraine James (untitled recs)

We imagine that when forward-thinking, experimental producers Loraine James and TAAHLIAH first devised the idea to create a track build around rowdy, Calvin Harris-esque drops, they probably did think “Fuck It!” Deconstructing the sounds of boisterous, smoke cannon moments, the pair meander between mid-noughties pad crescendos, high-pitched synths, fizzing basslines and deep cowbells.

A delectable mix of bubbling bass, warbling synths and frenetic percussion — ‘Wightman Wibble’ taken from North London producer rumu’s four-tracker on Scuffed Recs makes us feel like we’re simultaneously partaking in espionage, in the midst of a naughty warehouse rave and exploring the outer reaches of our third eye.

For his debut on Over/Shadow, Sussex-based UK bass don ETCH brings four heaters to the table. Title-track ‘The Creeper’ is our pick, a moody, snarling workout that sits somewhere between drum ‘n’ bass and hardcore – all built on top of a chopped up, intricate breakbeat.
