The best DJ mixes of the year 2025 so far - October - Mixmag.net

Batu 'Mixmag Cover Mix'

If you’re looking for an extraterrestrial journey to the farther reaches of space this month, Batu’s got you covered. In his Mixmag Cover Mix, the Timedance head honcho promises to take you on a vortex-spanning escapade – “stopping off at a space lounge before we come back to Mars to relax on deckchairs by the big Ikea”. In this hour, Batu toasts 10 years of Timedance with deep and delicious cuts from the likes of Verraco, Beaabea, Facta, Ploy, and many more.

Courtesy @ RALLY Festival

London day festival RALLY is a wonderful end-of-season affair, and this mid-afternoon set from Courtesy live from the festival’s Visionaire stage is a good see-off for the end of summer. Warming blends of electro and garage house weave together perfectly in a hypnotic 90-minute set.

Parcels @ The Lot Radio

Aussie funk quintet Parcels made a surprise appearance on The Lot Radio this month with a very rare DJ set – and proved that they’re not just good on the bass and keys. Pulling out soulful classic after deep house cut, Parcels show a lot of intention with their selections here, and the joy of watching the five-piece cheer one another on after each mix is worth the hour-long watch.

Pugilist x Firas ‘habitus mix 1’

Here’s an intriguing new mix format. ‘habitus mix’ asks two artists to each curate 20 tracks, and then they’re each tasked with mixing the other’s selections. It’s described as “an attempt to shake up the conventional format of the DJ mix” with “two skilled artists invited to step out of their respective comfort zones and into the other person's musical mindscape”. The first instalment brings together Melbourne artists Pugilist and Firas, with the first hour seeing Pugilist mix Firas’ picks, followed by 90 minutes of Firas mixing Pugilist selections. There’s no going through the motions or hot cues on show here. The tracks are given space to breathe and the blends exploratory as each DJ feels out the music and crafts into captivating, layered journeys where their skills are fully flexed.

DJ SLIINK ‘carRADIO 051’

DJ SLIINK steps up - or take his seat in the back of a red 1999 BMW 323, to be precise - for the carRADIO mix-on-the-go series. The format is inspired: Jersey club just sounds right blasted out the back of a convertible cruising through the nightscape of Hollywood, with SLIINK dressed in appropriately glamorous chains and shades for the entertainment capital of the world while unleashing an irresistible array of bouncing beats.

L.P. Rhythm ‘Mixmag Lab London’

Rising star L.P. Rhythm makes his Mixmag Lab debut with a bang. Bringing back the essence of the ‘90s but with a twist featuring some new and unreleased cuts. This groovy tech-house set wouldn’t be complete without him dropping his summer anthem, ‘Versatile’.

Luke Alessi ‘Live from Lost Village’

Fruity, playful, and chaotic, this mix transports you back to festival season. Close your eyes and imagine you are back in that warm weather, shades on. Luke springs around with some hypnotic percussion and big, exciting build-ups.

Mandidextrous ‘The Mix 079’

For their go at The Mix this month, Mandidextrous gave us an introduction to their new-fangled “speedbass” sound, a genre of their own making which combines wobbly bass, 4x4, UKG and drum ‘n’ bass influences. “It’s full-throttle rave energy, nostalgic at times, but built for the future,” they said in The Mix’s description — and we can’t help but agree. Mostly consisting of their own fiery productions and edits, with a string of contributions from old skool heads and next-gen producers such as Samurai Breaks, Dr Apollo and Maddy V, Mandidextrous demonstrates that unfiltered optimism the current dance music scene needs, paying homage to originators while creating something entirely new. Fun, fast and carrying a rare message that maybe things will be alright after all.

Kasra V on The Lot Radio

Making his debut on New York’s The Lot RadioKasra V dishes out a seriously blissed-out blend of scattered groove, blistering deep house and hypnotic bass. Upbeat while still maintaining a rowdy wallop, this hour-long mix is yet another example of the London-based DJ’s masterhand at tension-building.

TSVI b2b Surusinghe ‘Live from Nuits sonores’

Recorded live from this summer’s Nuits Sonores in Lyon, Nervous Horizon boss TSVI goes toe-to-toe with London-via-Melbourne DJ Surusinghe for a full-throttle, peak-time mix which transverses rowdy bassline, searing electro and buoyant dembow across its unrelenting two-hour run, keeping tongue-in-cheek with raucous drops such as the Pump Panel reconstruction of ‘Confusion’ by New Order - AKA the Blade club tune - Benny Benassi’s ‘Satisfaction’, and M-Beat’s ‘Wicked’. Yeah, this mix is that bitch.
