It’s 20 years to the day Sasha and John Digweed released the critically acclaimed ‘Northern Exposure’ mix CD on Ministry Of Sound.

From a time when mix albums were fully formed concept records, re-contextualizing tracks and taking the listener on a new journey, the legendary Sasha and John Digweed were at the peak of their powers together.

Side one presents a trippier palette of sprawling orchestral progressive house while the second side is pure autobahn-speed proto-trance and techno.

1 Future Sound Of London 'Cascade'

With broken beats experiencing a heady time in the musical spotlight, Future Sound Of London weren't far from many of the genre's best moments. This trippy roller is one of those highlights.

2 Young American Primitive 'These Waves'

Baggy beats, swelling strings and glistening arps all make this track euphoric on the dancefloor or a classic in a chill out mix.

3 Rabbit In The Moon 'Out Of Body Experience'

A bass-heavy belter which builds into a transcendent breakdown with huge vocals and sweeping synths. File this under 'T' for tune.

4 Fuzzy Logic 'Obsession' (William Orbit's Quantum Loop mix)

The first appearance from William Orbit on this list. A funky, rolling ride marrying soulful vocals with rhythmic bleeps and industrial breaks.

5 William Orbit 'Water From A Vine Leaf' (Spooky's Xylem Flow mix)

There's just no denying what a banger this is. Forget being on earth, at this point the 'Northern Exposure' mix has hit hyperdrive and we are in the cockpit, watching the cosmos slide past in a haze of big beat.

6 Castle Trancelot 'The Gloom'

Now heading south, your captains Sasha and Digweed have reprogrammed the co-ordinates to Giorgio Moroder-esque synths and an unrelenting, thumping kick. Enjoy.

7 Evolution 'Phoenix'

It's called trance for a reason.

8 The Light 'Dusk'

Fire up that Harley Davidson and ride off into the sunset with Paul from Tekken because where we're going, we don't need anything other than this track.

9 X Tracks 'Plan '94 (The Voyage)'

Dropping it back into acid-esque territory but never relinquishing the throttle. This track is really where the mix begins to wind up to the climax.

10 Underworld 'Dark & Long' (Dark Train)

And here we are, welcome to your destination: ecstasy. Population: you. Those lush stabs, the bobbing monotone bassline, the driving drums continuously pulling you forward into what feels like the promise land. A slice of Underworld’s finest.
