Toxe

Keen readers of this page will know of Dinamarca, the Swedish producer making hyperactive party music on his own Staycore imprint. Now the label has a new rising star in Toxe, a Gothenburg artist who melds thumping kicks with harsh melodies and ASMR sounds. Check out her visceral, meticulously crafted debut EP ‘Muscle Memory’ or her taste in punchy underground dance on mixes for NTS and The Astral Plane. She’s also behind Sister, an online community of female musicians she set up to “gather my sisters around me.”

SG Lewis

Sam Lewis’ smooth, electronic embraces are ideal for post-club wind downs. Case in point: ‘Warm’, made in his bedroom post-breakup, has had almost 900,000 SoundCloud spins and featured on US TV series Ballers. The PMR-signed 21-year-old has gone from studying music tech to getting tweets from Lorde saying “God this is SO GOOD” of his ‘Magnets’ remix. Influenced by James Blake and Bon Iver, he’s a resident at Liverpool’s Chibuku and features on endless ones-to-watch lists. New single ‘All Night’, feat Dornik, kicks off a potentially huge 2016.

SG Lewis plays Oslo on February 4

Bip Ling

In this Majestic Casual world of ‘effortlessly cool pop’ and serious so called ‘deep house’ heads, Bip Ling is a breath of fresh air with her piss-taking attitude. Some don’t get her brand of art pop, but her attitude has its roots in the 1970s mutant disco found on NYC’s Ze Records: think The Waitresses and Cristina. Liz Y2K is a fan: she dropped ‘Bip Burger’ on the Diplo And Friends show and ‘Bipping’ is a piano-led rave parody that rinses career bloggers. She recently warmed up for Kurrupt FM at their Tate Britain show with a acid house set before they lads destroyed the place. Her tongue in cheek pop will never going to get dropped at Fabric, but that Bip Burger’s still real tasty, as fashion circles love her. Yarr.

Iglooghost joins a swarm of artists breathing colour back into music. At just 18 he’s had a handful of releases on Fly High Society, Activia Benz and his latest, the ‘Chinese Nü Yr’ EP, on Brainfeeder. The British producer has all the intricate technique of someone far more experienced, but his speedy garage by way of PC music feels inconceivable without his youthful vigour. Tracks like ‘Xiangjiao’ blast with jittering synths, and ‘Mametchi/Usohachi’ emerges into cosmic rap.

Iglooghost plays The Waiting Room in London on February 19

Like Ella Eyre before her, Anne-Marie is the latest chart-ready vocalist to graduate from the Rudimental camp. The Essex-born singer, who describes her sound as a ‘fusion of electro, r’n’b, hip hop and pop’, has ignited stages worldwide with the Hackney troupe. But now the three-time karate world champion is going solo. Her single ‘Boy’, about the complexities of dating, is a throwback to ‘Smile’-era Lily Allen; her first London show sold out in 24 hours. Currently making an album due this summer, expect her to KO music in 2016.

Anne-Marie plays London’s Village Underground on February 1

Fearless and innovative, Kojey Radical, 22, embodies his name with his brooding beats and politically drenched lyricism. This Hoxton-based rapper is breathing new life into UK hip hop – in a way not seen since Roots Manuva. As creative director of art collective PushCrayons, Kojey maintains an artistic vision that goes beyond the music. ‘Open Hand’ is a contemporary call to arms, the video of which premiered at Tate Britain. Kojey is now ready to unleash his frank ferocity again on new ‘23 Winters’ EP.

‘23 Winters’ EP is out on February 23
