Here’s what went down at The Corner Shop, Rum Stripe’s celebration of UK soundsystem culture
To mark the launch of Red Stripe’s new rum-based cocktail Rum Stripe, they took over a local London corner shop with special guests D Double E, Tiffany Calver, and Sir Spyro
To celebrate the launch of Red Stripe’s brand new rum-based cocktail drink, Rum Stripe, the brand hosted a party at an intimate corner shop – proper London style. Honouring the brand’s Jamaican heritage and historic ties to dance music, Rum Stripe put on a show nodding to the uniqueness of UK soundsystem culture and its roots in Jamaica.
On October 16, 2024, The Corner Shop enlisted some of the UK’s most formidable music talent to take over a local convenience store in Old Street. BBC Radio 1 Xtra’s own Tiffany Calver stepped into the action with a slamming DJ set packed with dancefloor heaters, along with fellow R1 Xtra DJ and radio host Sir Spyro, who delivered grime-based bangers to an intimate crowd. To bring the night to a storming close, legendary grime MC D Double E joined the party to perform a handful of his all-time classic tracks.
Like every good local convenience store, The Corner Shop came packed with goods. Rum Stripe linked up with local designers to bring guests some specialty merchandise, including exclusive posters, game day-ready Rum Stripe football shirts, and themed drinks coolers to keep those tinnies cold at the park.
Rum Stripe is the brand new 7.5% ABV rum-based drink from Red Stripe paying homage to the brand's Jamaican roots. Coming in three flavours – Rum Punch, Cherry & Cranberry, and Pineapple & Coconut, you can find Rum Stripe at your local corner shop. Follow Red Stripe UK on Instagram to stay up to date on future events, and keep your eyes peeled for some future collaborations between Mixmag and Rum Stripe in 2025.
