Five reasons why Âme are one of the most prolific duos on the planet
Live or DJ set, they're on the money
Innervisions is without doubt one of the most popular record labels and club brands on the planet. The German powerhouse helmed by Dixon and Âme has been churning out dancefloor-focused, emotive bangers for over a decade and the reputation has only been strengthened by a series of amazing parties and events around the world.
Here we focus on Âme, the duo responsible for some of the imprint's best music. Made up of Kristian Beyer & Frank Wiedemann, the pair are known for both incredible DJ sets and live shows. Beyer takes charge of the DJ sets and Wiedemann steps up for the live shows. Sometimes they perform together but it doesn't matter what form you see them in, it's always a pretty moving experience.
On February 17, they head to Village Underground for a very special, rarely seen audio spectacle. Âme 2 Âme All Night Long will be a celebration of everything that the pair have accomplished to date and dancers can expect a blend of DJ and Live shows in the acclaimed London venue. Let's take a look at some of the duo's best tunes, performances and all round Âme goodness.
They were Mixmag's tune of the year in 2006
2006 was an amazing year for dance music, as displayed by our essential Spotify playlist recently. Justice, Erol Alkan and Skream were among the names that dominated the 12 months but Âme pretty much stole the show with their liberally played out classic 'Rej'. The deep, almost haunting techno cut managed to worm its way under the skin of ravers worldwide and still to this day it resonates with every audience that hear it.
Kristian's first Boiler Room is a historic stream
Cast your minds back to when Boiler Room was just a baby and the streaming giant had only recently started up its Berlin action. Although the video quality back then left a lot to be desired, the music sums up just how easy it is for Kristian Beyer to create a mood and take it down a path of elegance and beauty. With tracks from Prins Thomas, KiNK and Apparat, this is a great introduction to the Âme DJ set. Several Boiler Room appearances have followed and every single one is a belter.
Frank's live show is one of the best in the world
DJ sets are the bread and butter of anyone's weekend antics but for those searching for something a little different when it comes to their electronica intake, live shows are a great alternative. There are few that do it better than Frank Wiedemann either. You can always expect a medley of originals, remixes and specially crafted live edits that channel the Âme sound. The video above gives you a sneak peak at the dearly departed Trouw as Frank whips the Dutch crowd into a palpable frenzy.
They owned 2014 with their 'Turn Around' remix
If you went out partying in 2014, there's no doubt in our minds that you'd have heard Âme's remix of 'Turn Around' by Sailor & I. That goes for festivals, clubs, warehouses, after-parties: the track was a fucking bomb. The prolonged builds that explode into auditory ecstasy might have had something to do with it but it's safe to say the track still sounds bloody gorgeous now. It's one of our most popular premieres to date and one we still listen to fondly if we've got a raging comedown and need an instant hit of serotonin.
They're the best of friends and we love them for it
You can't fake chemistry. We've seen numerous b2b sets fail because they've not played together before and they're out of sync. This just isn't the case with Âme, their productions are always inch-perfect and even though they spilt the share of live and DJ sets, they've been together as a duo for well over a decade. This interview in their native German tongue shows that they're not only production partners, but the best of friends as well. Watching them play The Game Of Life makes us want to play The Game Of Life with our besties. Anyone? Please?
