Few DJs understand Ibiza quite as well as Munich techno star tINI

What happened at No Name last summer?

To cut a long story short, we got shut down by the police. We had some licence problems there, and the government didn’t want to see us partying on the beach. Partying on the beach in Ibiza is simply not possible any more. After a three-week break, we were lucky to find a new home at Lips. I don’t think it’s going to get any better for beach parties this year, so I’m not even going to try and do something similar this summer. The closest we could get to a beach party would be at Lips. But we’ll have to see how strict everything is going to be this summer.

But you’re definitely going back to Ibiza Underground?

Yes! We’ve got five or six dates, monthly events with two parties in September.

Tell us about Ibiza’s worst-kept secret, Ibiza Underground?

Underground is definitely one of my favourite clubs on the island. It was another one of the clubs I visited in 2003. It’s not about name-dropping or extreme entrance fees – on some nights you can still get in for free. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to discover the party scene beyond the bigger venues.

Where else can we catch you this summer?

I’ll also have a tINI residency at Cocoon. I’m going to be playing four or five times at Amnesia, exclusively for Cocoon. I’m not going to be playing for Marco or for HYTE. So it’s the Circoloco Opening, Carl Cox Closing, and in between, four or five gigs at Cocoon and five or six tINI and the Gang parties at Ibiza Underground.

Where do you like to eat before your gigs at Underground and Amnesia?

I always go to Café Prince in Marina Botafoch. It’s a little bakery that sells sandwiches. I went there a lot last summer! I usually order a big sandwich with lots of mozzarella and a fresh juice – they have a great selection of fresh juice.

It doesn’t sound as frantic as the Circoloco opening party! What can Ibiza newbies expect on May 23?

Oh my god, they are going to hear and see everything! It’s going to be really wild. It will be packed, very hot and you’ll hear a lot of good music. I’m pretty sure there will be an afterparty as well.

What are you up to right now?

I’ve just had two weeks off to work in the studio in Berlin. My big problem is that I have a lot of tracks ready... but not ready. I’m really bad at finishing things off!

Where can Mixmag get off the beaten track in Berlin?

It’s not really a big club, but it’s a very important spot in Berlin – Club der Visionaere. It’s a really beautiful spot beside the water. They take special care of the music and the line-ups. Also the soundsystem isn’t overly loud so you can talk to each other while the music is on. I think it is open every day in the summer. Your readers should definitely check it out.
