'Love Is Lost' (Faithless 2014 remix)

Faithless transform the standout track from Bowie's 2013 album 'The Next Day' from a growling, guitar-driven rock song into a euphoric 10-minute trance epic complete with a centrepiece breakdown.

'Jump They Say' (Leftfield remix)

Bowie's emotive 'Jump They Say' was an expression of grief for his schizophrenic brother Terry following his suicide. Here it gets a progressive house workout from seminal electronic group Leftfield.

'Rebel Rebel' (Soulwax Club mix)

Perhaps the most dancefloor-primed number on this list. The glam rock guitars and thumping percussion combine to form an irresistible, booty-shaking club anthem.

'Love Is Lost' (Hello Steve Reich Mix by James Murphy for the DFA)

James Murphy's remix samples Steve Reich's 'Clapping Music', and the track itself feels like the gradual shift and then surge of energy of a crowd moving from slow-clap to ovation, building from minimal beginnings into a passionate, swelling climax.

'Telling Lies (Adam F remix)'

Adam F takes Bowie's foray into jungle and stretches it out into a melancholic drum 'n' bass soundscape, characterised by immersive reverb and a high-pitched synth motif.

'A Better Future (Remix by AIR)'

AIR's remix of the 'Heathen' album track traverses from subdued to chaotic production, opening softly with a single tone and gradually incorporating more and more hectic ideas into the mix, including an evil-sounding, robotic vocoder sample.

'Hallo Spaceboy (Pet Shop Boys remix)'

The Pet Shop Boys' dance re-imagining of 1996 single 'Hallo Spaceboy' is a soaring slab of elation. The thumping production drives the track forward throughout, while Neil Tenant's contribution of additional vocals taken from 'Space Oddity' feels as natural as a planned duet.
