LOFT

The enigmatic ‘Turbulent Dynamics’ on LOFT’s 2016 Astral Plane Recordings debut demonstrated a devotion to experimentation repeated on the compelling textural shifts of ‘Funemployed’ on Wisdom Teeth last year. Björk took notice, including it in her Cover Mix for us. More releases dissipating the harshness of UK breakbeat techno with unsteady drum patterns and rapid gurgles are on the way.

Boundary

With a DIY aesthetic, Dominican producer Boundary, real name Josué Suero, is the latest talent in the lo-fi house movement. But what sets the 16-year-old apart are the disparate influences he draws from on his debut EP, including jazz, acid and r’n’b. ‘Mi Transferencia No 2’ is all rolling drums and glittery synths, while ‘Autenticado Por Mi Cuenta Master’ runs on 303 squelches. His recent ‘For An Exact Reason’ mix features the likes of John Maus, Drexciya and Legowelt.

Kampire

Kampire Bahana started mixing in 2015 after getting involved in the first edition of Nyege Nyege, a festival on the bank of the River Nile. Ugandan but raised in Zambia, Kampire’s sets send floors into overdrive with old and new sounds spanning Congolese soukous to Ghanaian kpanlogo. So far this year Kampire’s booked to play Morocco’s Atlas, Kenya’s Africa Nouveau, Burkina Faso’s Africa Bass Cultures and Sónar in Barcelona.

Troy Gunner

Troy Gunner’s stark and metallic sounds relate to a rich history of UK music, from dubstep to hardcore, bass to techno. It’s mechanical, industrial stuff designed to rattle warehouses, and while the drums are hefty and crisp, the synth details and percussion patterns are crafted to add real depth. The Bristol man has featured on Akkords’s album on Houndstooth and also runs the vinyl-only Gunner label, bringing plenty of bang to the dancefloor

K4cie

Getting her first set on Glasgow’s bass and grime-focused LVLZ station in 2015, K4CIE soon became one of the most visible members of the city’s burgeoning urban scene, as a member of the Forij collective. Last year the 25-year-old started club night Peach, aiming to open up the scene to women and the LGBTQ+ community. The success of her monthly trap, hip hop and grime-focused Radar Radio show, GLA Nights, won her a promotion to a weekly daytime show in January.

Ben Rau

FUSE alumni Ben Rau has been on the ascent for several years. The Berlin native has brought his rolling, jacking sets to Fabric’s main room for WetYourSelf!, PIV Records at ADE with Cynthie, and is jetting off for a tour of South America and Australia in 2018. Potent releases have arrived via Luna and Bodyparts, and Rau aims to bring rising artists into the limelight via his vinyl-only META imprint. The first EP from Rhymos opened proceedings with a slinking, minimal-leaning house banger.

Ben will remix every META vinyl release through 2018
