Virginia (pictured above) 'Fierce For The Night' (Osgut Ton)
Ostgut Ton is more than just a label, it’s an institution. Berghain and Panorama Bar are two of the most iconic rooms in the world, and the artists that have been brought through the ranks are the best of the best. Now it’s time for label associate and Panaorama Bar resident Virginia to join the fray. The vocalist has enlisted the talents of Martyn, Dexter and Steffi to help create ’Fierce For The Night’, one of the finest LPs we’ve heard this year. From the sparkling synth opener ‘Bally Linny’ to the electro swagger of ‘1977’, it’s as much a dancefloor album as it is suited for the afterparty. Martyn’s broken drums are present on both the twinkling ‘Subdued Colours’ and the anthemic ‘Follow Me’, while the UK funky tip on ’Funkert’ makes it impossible not to dance. Virginia’s vocals are a revelation and with Italo running through its veins, it treads the line between sweet and sassy without sounding cheap. What a debut, but we’d expect nothing less from Ostgut.
