Tune of the month
Hypho 'Gong Tau' (Benton remix) (Eat My Beat)
We were big fans of Hypho’s ‘Gong Tau’ EP when it was released earlier this year so couldn’t wait to check out the new remix package. Benton delivers a dark remix of the title track, keeping the eerie essence of the original intact while upping the tempo by fusing jungle-inspired beats and a grinding bassline. A peak-time battle weapon from an exciting, talented underground artist.

Rory Hoy feat Ashley Slater 'Gettin’ Home' (Super Hi-Fi Recordings)
Rory Hoy teams up once again with good friend and collaborator Ashley Slater for another uplifting, soulful party-rocker. Ashley’s rasping, signature vocals complement jazzy grooves, soaring horns and some tasty scratching thrown in for good measure. The dynamic duo deliver the goods once again.
8/10
Denham Audio 'The Chain' (Nineteen Ninety Four)
Sheffield trio Denham Audio are going from strength to strength at the moment, crafting their sound around UK bass, techno and the ravey sounds of yesteryear. ‘The Chain’ is a perfect addition to their impressive catalogue, reworking classic Aretha Franklin lyrics over fiery jungle beats and soft, atmospheric synths.
8/10
Oumou Sangare 'Yere Faga' (Mawimbi mix) (Nø Førmat!)
‘Yere Faga’ was the first track to be released from Oumou Sangaré’s forthcoming LP ‘Mogoya’. Here, Parisian collective Mawambi transforms it into a club-friendly steady roller, introducing their trademark combination of cutting-edge electronic music and traditional African flavours. With its warm, organic grooves and percussive, driving beats, we just can’t get enough of it.
7/10
FineArt & My Nu Leng 'Border' (Maraki)
FineArt (alias of DnB pioneer Friction) and Bristol’s My Nu Leng join forces and unleash their brand new imprint Maraki. Their debut EP features the collaborative track ‘Border’, a summer festival-primed stormer featuring ragga vocals, deep churning basslines and weight beats. If you like this, make sure you check out their 2015 hit ‘Set It’ on MTA, too.
9/10
Smoove 'Main Sourced' (Parts 1&2) (Wack)
Smoove celebrates the 25th anniversary of Main Source’s influential hip hop album ‘Breaking Atoms’ with a very special eight-minute, two-part tribute cut. Classic samples, melodies and beats which were used in creating the original LP are intricately selected and seamlessly blended in his masterful style. Definitely worth checking.
8/10
Cut La Roc feat Coppa 'Supa Disco' (The Cromer Suicide Club remix) (Rocstar)
We’re not sure who Cromer Suicide Club are (although rumour has it they’re a certain friend of Mr Fatboy Slim). Whoever they are, they’ve taken Coppa’s vocals and spliced them up over catchy piano riffs and live drums tailor-made for those smoky, underground jazz bars, resulting in an outstanding rework.
8/10
Moresounds 'Ting N Tings' (Cosmic Bridge)
Paris-based Moresounds returns to Cosmic Bridge five years after his debut. Lead cut ‘Ting N Tings’ pays homage to the seminal sounds of old while keeping things current with modern production techniques. Fresh, forward-thinking music with a nostalgic nod to the 90s.
8/10
Mïus feat Raf Skowronski 'Lost Adam' (iamyank remix) (Mïus)
Budapest’s iamyank takes Mïus’ original into a deeper, darker arena. It slowly unwinds over two minutes, combining heavenly strings with captivating vocals until off-beat drums take it in a whole new direction. This is moody, atmospheric and an instant head-turner.
