In Session: rRoxymore
Erratic and floor-shaking selections from the French artist
Now look, our love for rRoxymore over here is no secret. Can you blame us? She constantly wows us with her sublime productions and we've been knocked for six each time we've seen her DJ.
It was at Dekmantel Selectors in 2016 where we really took a shine to her. The French artist was playing at Barbarella's, the Croatian festival's open-air, late-night spot, and treating us to off-kilter house and techno. The selections were often weird but totally wonderful. It was at that moment we knew we had to closely keep track of everything she did from then on.
Soon after, her 'Organ Smith' EP on Don't Be Afraid arrived. Three tracks of leftfield techno; odd and joyous 'WTF?' cuts to make you crack a huge smile in the club. The title track is especially bonkers; over seven minutes of spanky percussion and bouncy space hopper organs, believe it or not. 'Uchi's House' is equally, if not more, bizarre. Think the Pied Piper, suitably hyper, marching through the streets of Berlin instead of the sleepy town of Hamelin. Combine that with raw, ghetto-inflected dancefloor energy and 'Uchi's House' is the result.
Don't Be Afraid was home for her once again earlier this month, releasing 'Thoughts Of An Introvert Part 1'. This time she combined the devious with the dreamy. Judging by the title, it looks like we can expect another package of unconventional goodies some time in the future.
“I try not to choose the easy path," she told us last year when asked about working outside of the norm. "I always try to be surprising in what I’m using." That certainly shows in her music, other releases including 'Wheel Of Fortune' on Human Level and the 'Tautologies' EP on Macro. There's also been the Decon/Recon #1 project with Paula Temple, PlanningToRock and Olof Dreier from The Knife. This involved all the artists collecting samples and then making tracks from each others' findings, again proving rRoxymore's liking of doing things differently.
If all of the above isn't enough to convince you of rRoxymore's immense talent, maybe her hour-long In Session will sway you. Lock in below for a mix of erratic, dubbed out and floor-shaking tracks. It's a blast, trust us.
