A joyous journey right back to the NYC Downlow
It goes without saying that Glastonbury is one of the most magical and life-affirming musical experiences in the world. Heralded as one of the best festivals on Earth, no matter where you spend your time on Worthy Farm, it's pretty obvious you're going to have an amazing time but this year, there was one area that attracted all the attention.
block9 is the hedonistic, dystopian playground that plays host to some of the best stages and best soundsystems on site and there's also one of the hottest, sexiest and most damn-right fabulous clubs nestled within. Of course we're talking about the NYC Downlow and revellers who make their way into the homoerotic haven will be treated to some of the finest DJs spinning till the sunrises in one of the most inclusive environments you could wish for. There's an array of dancers strutting their sultry stuff on the catwalk and there's even a dark room in the corner.
Basically, it's one of our favourite clubs in the world and it's only open once a year, something that only adds to its appeal.
This year we saw The Black Madonna, Prosumer, Roger Sanchez and Honey Dijon throw down outrageously good sets but one of our absolute highlights came in the form of nd_baumecker's blistering performance on the Saturday night.
The German selector has been DJing for 25 years and in 2004 he moved to Berlin where Panorama Bar called his name. That year he not only started a residency at the heralded club but he also began to work there as an in-house booker. From there, that's where we see nd_baumecker really come to life.
