The elusive producer rounds off an exceptional year

The first time we heard 'Wek' by Fango, we thought to ourselves "what the fuck is this track?" and we're almost certain we wouldn't have be alone in that sentiment. It became an anthem of 2013 that came fully loaded with as much mischief as it did malice. Pounding kicks were the backdrop for a riff that hypnotised with every hit of every tone.

While little is known about the Italian producer, what we do know is that he's got a lot of fans in very high places. With Degustibus Music acting as a home for the majority of his releases, he's dropped eight EPs via the imprint and all of them have been very well received by some of the world's best selectors. Marcel Dettmann said that 'Vampiro' "gives him goosebumps" and Michael Mayer has described the producer as "The hottest thing in the 4/4 business right now", two accolades that speak for themselves.

This year though, things have stepped up for Fango and although he may not have played many gigs, his releases have been some of the most talked about and played of the year. If you haven't got any of his 'Viscera' series in your record bag then shame on you, you've been sleeping this year.

Released in three parts, the 'Viscera' EPs have been some of the most well received of the year. DJs like Laurent Garnier, Jackmaster and most-notably Dixon have been rinsing his tracks. When 'Rectum' first dropped we were dubious about such a questionably-named track but on further investigation we realised that the sparse, rabid, drum-fuelled monster would be one of the most inventive and popular tracks of the year.

Described as 'virtuous perfectionist obsessed with mixing bassdrums', this seems like a more than accurate description of the shadowy Italian and to cap off a massive year for the producer, he's recorded a rare mix for us for his debut In Session.

What follows is a heady mix of feisty disco and warped house. It's one of the most eclectic mixes we've had all year and it's fitting as Fango is one of the most eclectic producers around right now. Dive in and get weird.
