In Session: Brawther & Tristan Da Cunha

Before Glastonbury hits next week, we look back to last year's edition

Glastonbury is the greatest festival on the planet. We're not actually putting that up for debate either, it's the most dazzling show on earth and one where the phrase 'seeing is believing' has never been so apt. The music is wide-spanning and all encompassing, the surroundings are mesmerising and the adventure is undeniably epic, like that of a Lord Of The Rings-esque mission with less imminent dread and more loved-up frolicking.

One of our favourite areas of the festival is Block9 and we're not alone in that sentiment. This year the crew, helmed by Gideon Berger and Stephen Gallagher, celebrate ten years of eye-popping set design, show-stopping visuals and impeccable curation. The section of the site boasts numerous highlight venues like Genosys, the burnt-out building structure with Inception-style visuals beamed onto the walls, The London Underground, which literally has a train coming out of the venue and The NYC Downlow, quite possibly the most glorious nightclub in the entire world.

To really ramp up the excitement for this year, we must first take a look back to last year and the thought alone has us shaking with anticipation. There were some real stand-out sets at Block9 in 2016 but one of our favourite pairings was that of Brawther and Tristan Du Cunha, two regulars when it comes rolling out fierce, show-stopping house.

Having been affiliated with the Block9 crew for a considerable period of time as residents, the pair have played The NYC Downlow for the last five years in a row at Glastonbury, therefore they're no strangers when it comes to keeping the hottest joint in the festival bumping. Under their Dungeon Meat guise in the Downlow, they keep things decidedly fun and rolling and when they appear on Genosys, they keep it techy and heads-down, a vibe that suits the dystopian environment dancers strut their stuff in.

Away from the festival and in their own worlds, both artists enjoy success as singular selectors. Brawther's main port of call for releases is Balance, the sub-label of Prescription Records run by Chez Demier and Ron Trent, two artists that offer up no higher seal of approval when it comes to house music. His amazing album 'Endless' dropped a few years ago via the imprint and included enough heat to keep any crowd warm.

Hailing from Leeds, Tristan Da Cunha built his name through a residency at Back To Basics and developing artists as an A&R for 20/20 Vision. His skill as a selector is heralded throughout the game and with some outrageously good stand-alone productions, his pairing with Brawther to form Dungeon Meat seemed like a perfect, natural progression.

When they dropped 'The Fuck Off Track' back in 2013 via My Love Is Underground, the marriage really came to fruition and the ripper topped the Juno charts as the best selling house track that year. Basically, they're two of the coolest cats in the game and when they played at Genosys last year, we lost our shit.

Naturally, we lost our shit again when we found out that the 90 minutes of gold was recorded and we could not only relive one of our fondest times at the festival, but that we could share it with you as well. We're proud to have these two house heroes join the In Session ranks and what better way to prepare for their sets this year than with a reminder of this whirlwind session.

See you in the fields.

Brawther & Tristan Da Cunha headline Genosys on Thursday night at 21:30pm, they will also play before Masters At Work at The NYC Downlow at 12.30am on Sunday
