Five DJs to check out at Love International

We were sad to see The Garden Festival host its final event in the paradise of Tisno last summer after ten glorious years, but quickly cheered up when Love International was announced to be taking its place, bringing a line-up featuring the likes of Dixon, Job Jobse, Lakuti, Joy Orbison, Hodge and Midland for its debut year.

Hunee’s versatility makes him the perfect DJ to watch at a festival. The Rush Hour-affiliated artist is perhaps best known for drawing for cuts of soulful house and disco, but he is well adept at stepping it up a notch into chaotic acid-fuelled numbers if the time is right. Whatever mood you're in, you can count on Hunee to pull out something perfectly suited to the occasion.

There’s an almost mythical aura surrounding the residents of Berlin’s Berghain/Panorama Bar nightspot. It’s regarded among the finest clubbing destinations on the planet; the DJs that regularly grace its booths earn a reputation to match, and deservedly so. Tama Sumo’s flair for bringing vibes with a pumping mixture of funk-fuelled house, disco and afrobeat is perfectly suited to the Beach stage she’s playing on Friday evening.

Some DJs can be categorised into genres. You have house DJs, techno DJs, jungle DJs, and so on. If we had to pick an umbrella term for Ben UFO’s selections, it would have to be something like “mindblowing DJ”. His sets on the Crack boat party and in Barabarellas on Sunday are guaranteed to be a masterclasses that will have you gasping “what is this?!” in delight as he digs into his wide-ranging collection of tracks.

The curators behind Love International are Bristol-based, so it’s no surprise to see Shanti Celeste on the bill. She’s been a favourite in the city for years, delighting crowds with her sublime sets that span across Chicago house classics to thumping electro heaters. Now the rest of Europe is catching on with her profile rising in stature by the minute. You can catch her laying it down alongside Dixon and Job Jobse at Barbarellas on Saturday night which is going to be unmissable.

Studio Barnhus co-founder Kornél Kovács’s set in The Lab LDN last month was up there with the best we’ve ever had. After opening up with a funky house cover of Cher’s ‘Believe’, he somehow got even better from there, filling the set with irresistible grooves, ebullient melodies and lush pads. His new album has been on the office stereo nonstop since it landed in our inbox; we cannot wait to hear it underneath the warm Croatian sun.
