Carl Cox's Space Ibiza scrapbook
A look back at Coxy's time at the Playa d'en Bossa club
1 1998
This was the first time the Terrace was properly used. Before that it was just an open air area you chilled out in. Eddie Gordon at Radio 1 was doing an afterparty for the Radio 1 workers, a thank you for them. So they changed it from a lounge to a dancefloor. We set up the DJ area, opened the doors, a thousand people came and I rocked the shit out of it.

This looks like the very first time we played in the car park. If you look in background where the girl is standing, that’s the entrance to the office, so we were facing opposite the water park. It’s all changed so much since then. Check out the lights, the early days of LEDS!
3 2001
This is probably the second or third Terrace incarnation, and the first year of the residency. I have a real booth, but no LEDs! Back then it was a just a flag and a banner and away we went.
4 2008
Sven had a problem with Space and swore he’d never go back, but we kept inviting him. He finally came for the closing party with Dice and really enjoyed himself. He’s not been back since, but it was a phenomenal night.

Me rocking the main room. You can now see that the VIP room is built. More gear changes, too.
6 2008
Sven on the podium!

Pepe in full flow, singing happy birthday. He’s an entertainer in his own right. It’s always an awesome moment of the summer for me. There’s no other promoter or club owner I know who would come in and do this. It’s always an honour to have him there.
8 2015
We’ve always tried to get as many female DJs as we can and Heidi and Monika Kruse are two of the best. That’s Dave Browning on the right, our promotions operator. He’s been with us since day one and we couldn’t have done any of it without him.
9 2007
François K is a genius, his sets are really something. He and Goldie both played for us. Goldie’s d’n’b set was very dark and moody. He stayed and partied all night. François is back for our closing party this year.
10 2013
These are our dancers; a lot of them have been with us for years. We’ve always gone for this look, based on the revolution. They’re an important part of the night too.
11 2013
Another great shot. Laurent doesn’t play that often, but always creates something special when he does. This is the main room, probably the first time when we did back-to-back. There aren’t that many photos of me with other DJs like this, because we’re normally like ships in the night, but when DJs take over we try and grab a quick pic. We have Pan, not Pot.
12 2013
Me and Dice at a closing party. Looks like I might have missed a beat or something! We don’t plan it – it’s all very much in the moment which is why it’s so enjoyable.
13 2014
Eats loves playing for us. He’s a lot younger than me, and he’s told me he never thought he’d be playing alongside me. He’s always so grateful and lovely.
14 2010
People don’t see this part of the night, right at the end. I’m right there until the end. It’s a bloody mess! I look fresh as a daisy! This shows the carnage left in the car park after everyone has gone.
