Mixmag music round-up: April

April was a fucking blinder for exclusive music

How the fuck is it nearly May already? We're close to the summer now and although the UK weather is as intermittent as Deadmau5's industry beefs, we're counting down the days till festival season.

With that being said, the music that's guiding us to the summer months has been pure fire. January, February and March all provided top notch musical gold but now it's time for April to show us what it was made of.

Highlights include Papa Sven wheeling out some new remixes of a few of his classic jams, Dean Grenier joining the Omnidisc ranks in hellish style and Alan Fitzpatrick, who handed us an outrageous exclusive from his entry to the fabric CD ranks.

Our mixes were hot as well this month, with the likes of D'Julz, Julia Govor, DJ Marfox and Jane Fitz.

Time to tuck in to some large slabs of auditory chunk. Thanks April, you were sick.

Premieres

Dennis Ferrer 'Son Of Raw' (André Hommen remix)

Happy fucking birthday Dennis. 10 years ago you released 'Son Of Raw' and it's one of your best tracks ever.

The house classic got a special series of remixes this year for the big anniversary and André Hommen smacked it out of the park with his. One of our favourites this month.

Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons 'Trouble At The Séance' (Kölsch Remix)

Over the last twelve months or so, Crosstown Rebels daddy Damian Lazarus has been focusing on the mystical and dream-like with his new Ancient Moons project. The album dropped last year and now comes the remix LP. The list of artists on board is pretty epic and Kölsch's remix is our pick of the bunch. Good job we got the premiere then.

Dusky 'Buckets'

Dusky have been on our radars for a long time but we reckon this year could be their biggest yet. Their label 17 Steps is building up steam nicely, they've just launched a new live show and there's a new album on the way. 'Buckets' was released earlier in April as part of Record Store Day and if you didn't manage to cop the vinyl then at least you can check it here.

Sven Väth 'Accident In Paradise' (KiNK Remix)

We love you Sven, we really do. Your label is amazing, your selections are unreal and your mixing is God-like. In April the Papa released two brand new remixes of two of his classic tracks and KiNK turned in an outrageous edit of 'Accident In Paradise'. We've seen videos of Sven playing this out and it goes OFF.

Doms & Deykers 'It's You I See'

Steffi x Martyn = Dream Team. Ahead of a new album from the duo as Doms & Deykers, we premiered 'Its You I See' and we've had it on repeat.

Terr 'May Day'

Hotflush Recordings' newest signing is Terr and she's a fine new addition to Scuba's roster. She was originally one half of Digitaria so she knows the score and 'May Day' is her entry into the ranks. It bangs.

Audion 'Mouth To Mouth' (Jamie Jones Remix)

It's not only Dennis Ferrer who's celebrating his track hitting that big 10 year milestone, oh no. Audion's 'Mouth To Mouth' has reached double figures and he's pulled out all the stops to get the biggest and best to remix it. Boys Noize, Dubfire and Guy Gerber were among the artists to take part, Jamie Jones won it for us though. This remix is full of surprises.

Hannah Holland 'High' (Huxley Remix)

Hannah Holland works fucking hard. She's the solid-as-a-rock resident at Dalston Superstore and takes her impeccable selections all over the world. Her productions are wicked as well and her latest track just got a rework from Huxley. Huxley killed it, obviously.

Celestial Trax 'Together'

Back in 2014, we described Celestial Trax as "someone who makes undefinable electronic music that's laced with sub bass." This year he's backed that up with 'Together', an absolute banger.

Ellen Allien 'Off'

With 'Off' now in her artillery, Ellen continues to not only dominate the electronic scene, but as as she describes, the entire galaxy itself and the track is another fantastic addition to her amazing BPitch Control imprint.

Mixes

In Session: Jane Fitz

Jane Fitz has been perfecting the art of the DJ set since the mid 90s. She's a long-serving selector, crate digger and promoter and is, basically, as dedicated to dance music as anyone can be. The In Session mix she's turned in for us showcases her deep, dreamy side – the perfect warm-up for the summer madness.

In Session: DJ Marfox

The club music that DJ Marfox makes and plays is as hot as it gets. Charging in at upwards of 140bpm, it shimmys and shakes and will get your body moving accordingly. He calls it Lisbon Kuduro, a take on the Angolan sound native to the housing projects that lie on the periphery of the Portugese capital.

Impact: Julia Govor

There aren’t many DJs who are exciting us as much as Julia Govor is right now. We think that Julia’s Impact recording is her most accomplished mix to date, delicately blending tech-house with rolling techno cuts. She's loaded the hour with an array of incredible, unreleased material.

In Session: Rødhåd

One act that's taken the genre by storm is German artist Rødhåd, who's in the middle of the best years of his career. For his In Session expect Dystopian landscapes carved out through ambient builds, eerie melodies and of course face-melting techno that has the power to even subdue the most war-intent Terminator.

In Session: D'Julz

D'Julz is an absolute master of his craft, there's no doubt about it. With his Bass Culture imprint, he's curated one of the finest house music discographies around and a quick scan through the artists that have released via the label shows off a who's who of talent. There's no tracklist for this one because he wants the diggers out there to work for it and we rate that, a lot.
