10 times your favourite cartoons went to the rave

Cartoon nostalgia has always been a solid source of distraction from our looming, adult responsibilities. Be it timeless throwbacks from Spongebob Squarepants and The Simpsons or new, edgy content from shows like Adventure Time and Rick and Morty, the cartoon medium has forever maintained its ability to evoke a plethora of human emotions.

Mixmag has gone back and revisited some of the classic cartoon moments where we find a number of the most beloved animated characters, from the ‘90s and beyond, raving it up on the dance floor.

Perhaps one of the most beloved episodes of the whole series, Samurai Jack embarks on a mission to stop Aku’s evil DJ minion - who has bewitched the city’s youth with a wicked onset of techno music.

Fortunately, Jack has got the moves (and the proper rave gear) to stop this sinister MC.

The importance of this episode is summed up perfectly by the YouTube comment: “When I first saw this episode I always wanted to dress up and go to a place like that.”

Season Three: Episode XXVIII - Jack and the Rave

Have you ever met a stranger at the rave, invited them back to your place for the after-party and soon after realised they have no intention of slowing things down? Plenty have made that mistake...and so has Spongebob.

Spongebob invites a jellyfish back to his crib and the party gets jumping! Unfortunately, Spongebob later realises that the jellyfish and his mates are not going to bed anytime soon.

Season One: Episode 7 - Jellyfish Jam

A clear ode to the show Soul Train, Dexter’s sister Dee Dee cures her boredom after learning a sweet new dance move from Big Daddy Fat on the TV show "Groove Train".

She goes on to sneak into her brother Dexter's "lab or a tory" and relentlessly harass him with the fresh rug cutter. Escaping to the bottom of the sea and eventually making his way to outer space, Dexter eventually realizes that there is no escaping the funk.

Season Two: Episode Six - Sisters Got a Brand New Bag

Invader Zim follows an extraterrestrial character named Zim, whose sole purpose to conquer Earth and subjugate the human race to his will. Despite his best efforts... he always tends to come up short.

While trying to test earth's defenses in his "Voot" (spaceship), a collision with a bumblebee leaves his vehicle incapacitated. When calling upon his zany, malfunctioning robot companion Gir for backup, he can't get a signal through since Gir is on another important mission: infiltrating the rave.

Season One: Episode Five - Attack of the Saucer Morons

Any Adventure Time knows fully well that both Finn and Jake love to party. Between shaking it with dancing bugs, throwing ragers at their Treehouse pad and partying with The Party God in the Cloud Kingdom, the show's dynamic duo knows how to get down.

However, when Finn and Jake crawl into the stomach of a large monster after hearing cries for help, they find a mob of dancing bears partying it up in the belly of the beast! Despite trying to warn the party of the impending danger they are in, Finn and Jake find that they need to partake in the rave if anyone is going to take them seriously.

Season Two: Episode 21 - Belly of the Beast

A party panda named Allegro comes to Townsville and infects its citizens with a rainbow colored dose of pure happiness. Between the enlarged eyes of the infected, the behavior of the those at the party and the music… the parallels are not all that subtle.

Season One: Episode Four - Painbow (2016 Powerpuff Girls series)

“You’ve been playing the exact same song for 14 hours… that means you are great!”

In this episode of Family Guy, Peter and his friends accidentally throw together a music mix which lands them a gig at their local club, Rhode-Rave. Peter eventually decides to go solo and is booked to play at the Electric Clam Festival, but blows it when goes deaf after an extra loud rehearsal and ends up playing an audiobook at the festival.

Season 15: Episode 12 - Peter's Def Jam

When an alien parasite, which multiplies by implanting fake memories into people's head, invades the home of the Smith family, its up the gang to figure out who is real and who needs to be eradicated in order to save earth.

As suspicion grows within the house, Summer recalls her escapade with and her “imaginary” friend Tinkles: a magical sheeplike character who flies her away to the rave in Never Past Bedtime Land.

Season Two: Episode Four - Total Rickall

In an effort to give his wife Francine the confidence to cheat on him, Stan enlists the help of his alien companion Roger to whip up a batch of homemade ecstasy. The formula hits Roger hard and fast, prompting a sudden glowstick dance. While raving in the kitchen on a homemade batch of E might seem like a fun idea, we ask that you please not try this at home.

Season Eight: Episode 16 - The Kidney Stays in the Picture

One of Hollywood’s biggest party animals, BoJack Horseman surrounds himself with drink, drugs and dancing strangers after his movie gets nominated. Partying relentlessly, BoJack is showered with expensive and luxurious gifts - including his very own David Guetta.
