Yu Su teases next EP with new single, ‘Counterclockwise’

Her new four-track project, ‘I Want an Earth’, is due to land later in July

China-born, Canada-based multi-hyphenate Yu Su has announced the release of her next record, ‘I Want an Earth’, coming out via Pinchy & Friends this month.

The four-track release is due to land on July 28, and marks the first solo project from Yu Su since 2021’s acclaimed ‘Yellow River Blue’, her debut album.

‘I Want an Earth’ was first conjured up during the producer’s stay in Ojai, a desert town in California, where she spent time amongst nature.

Taking inspiration from “the objects around”, which included reflections of light, wood burning in the fireplace, and materials that “rhymed with the sounds in the room”, Yu Su explained that the EP draws on her environment at the time of production.

“The desert and valley plants, the ground where citrus grows, and the flood and rainstorm that created,” she said, all gave inspiration for the next release.

“The golden earth is the changing point of the matter, earth centres, stabilises, and conserves, nurtures, and seeks to draw all things together with itself.”

The EP consists of four tracks, each varied in style, that play on the elements. The first track from her forthcoming record, ‘Counterclockwise’, is out now ahead of the full release. Listen below.

‘I Want an Earth’ features additional guitar and bass recordings from Scott Johnson Gailey and Aiden Ayers, both of whom are part of Yu Su’s live band.
