Young woman dies from "suffocation and hypoxia" at Skrillex concert

The 23-year-old reportedly suffered cardiac arrest at the Gurgaon show at the weekend

A woman has died at a Skrillex concert in India after reportedly suffering cardiac arrest due to suffocation.

It is said that Aanchal Arora, 23, collapsed during the gig at Sector 29 in Gurgaon, just outside of New Delhi, on Sunday night. According to The Tribune, she was taken to hospital but pronounced "dead on arrival", with a post-mortem revealing the cause of death to be suffocation and hypoxia.

Although nothing has been confirmed, police are investigating whether overcrowding occurred after much more than the permissible capacity apparently turned up.

Ramesh Pal, the assistant commissioner of police, said: "While seeking an NOC for the event, the organisers had said they expected a crowd of about 5,000. But, nearly 10,000 people turned up for the concert. The venue was congested."

A statement from a "highly-placed official" differs from that, though, saying: "The permission letter submitted by the organisers mentioned a maximum of 6,000 people, but nearly 15,000 people turned up for the concert.

"The organisers were not prepared and neither did they officially seek any additional help from police."

Police are due to review CCTV footage from the Clockwork Events concert, with Arora's family apparently filing a law suit against the organisers for a "case of negligence".
