YMC presents OKORO SS17

A spirited counter-cultural British collection

The British designers have taken influence from the works of photographer Malick Sidibé, who captured the influence of Western fashions with African teenagers, as well the impact African artworks had on Britain from the late 60s to early 80s, to create a bold, abstract collection, that fuses cultural artefacts between Britain and Africa.

Key textiles including abstract prints, intricate embroideries, smooth silks, jacquard cotton and light linens, which are used to transform classic YMC silhouettes into ethnic inspired attires.

Key pieces include cropped wide leg chinos, flared jeans, silk boiler suits, suede jackets and MA-1 bombers, in muted tones including dusty pink, safari yellow.

The collection also features a collaborative range of T-shirts with the British Museum and Botswanian artist Ann Gollifer, which are printed with ‘Mother Tounge’, an artwork from the Museum’s Africa collection.
