Watch the trailer for an acid house documentary with Carl Cox and Derrick May

A history of the genre, 14 years in the making

A brand new documentary, 14 years in the making, has released a trailer with interview gems with the likes of a young Carl Cox, Derrick May, Paul Oakenfold, Noel Gallagher and more.

The film, titled 'They Call It Acid' was directed by Gordon Mason, who spent over a decade collecting footage, much of which was actually filmed in the late 1980s and never seen before.

"As a film lover and having worked with top end television documentaries as an Editor and Producer / Director for the last 25 years, it felt right that I should use this medium to put together what I believed would be an important social document of that era," Mason says in a statement on the film's website.

"By looking up some of my old friends and making new contacts with nearly all the Acid House pioneers and creators of all those seminal House Music anthems, I was able to embark on an enjoyable journey assembling the film and the archive shot by some of my contemporaries into what is a very entertaining, sometimes funny and universal story that can be experienced by all."

The movie's soundtrack was curated by none other than acid house pioneer "Evil" Eddie Richards and dives into the political and turbulent history of acid house with narration from Robert Owens.

'They Call It Acid' is currently seeking funding for its release and remains to announce an official date.
