Dave Clarke: Charcoal Eyes - A Selection of Remixes from Amsterdam

Following an extended break from the recording studio, in more recent years Dave Clarke has made his presence felt again.

This stern, chewy collection of techno and electro reworks, including a couple of sparse, glitchy mixes by Clarke’s _unsubscribe_ collaboration with Jonas Uittenbosch, offers a taste of what we’ve been missing. It veers from the noisy punk attack of A Place to Bury Strangers’ ‘Straight’ to the accessible thump of Clarke’s take on Placebo’s ‘Scene of the Grime’ via a version of Soft Moon’s ‘Wrong’ that harks back to ‘80s synth-pop.

The Baron of Techno is in fine form, making the dark side appealingly funky, boding well for whatever else he has up his sleeve.
