Up to 80 people injured in Falls Festival stampede

19 were transported to hospital from the event in Lorne, Australia

Up to 80 people have been injured, 19 seriously, in a stampede at Australia's Falls Festival.

Local rock band DMA's had just finished their set in the Grand Theatre tent at the Lorne event shortly before 11pm last night (December 30) when festival-goers reportedly lost their footing as the crowd made their way towards two exits in a rush to catch London Grammar at the main stage.

Luckily, no one was killed in the incident. 19 people were transported from the event.

Festival organisers told the Herald Sun in a statement: “Injuries included leg, rib, hip and pelvic fractures, possible spinal injuries, head and facial injuries, cuts and abrasions. Patients’ ages ranged from late teens to late 20s.”

Falls Festival is held across New Year's in Lorne, about two hours' from Melbourne, Byron Bay and Marion Bay. It will also be held in Fremantle next week.

Booka Shade and Alison Wonderland are among the electronic acts on the bill.
