Tresor owner plans to turn abandoned Detroit factory into techno club
The Berlin club founder wants to pay the city back for giving Germany techno
Detroit could have a new techno club on the way if the owner of Berlin's Tresor's plans work out.
Dimitri Hegemann hopes to acquire the abandoned former auto plant Fisher Body 21 and turn it into a nightclub, expressing his wish to pay the city back for introducing techno to Berlin.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Hegemann has visited the severely dilapidated, and apparently contaminated, building on his last 15 visits to Motor City and says "it has a special aura" and just needs "red lights and a kicking soundsystem" to make it work.
As well as a nightclub, plans have also been made to install a pop-up restaurant and art space in the 536,000 square foot building.
Hats off Dimitri. We'll definitely be paying a visit if this goes through.
