Traxsource and TIDAL introduce new AI detection tools

Both platforms are cracking down on AI-generated music and “fraudulent” tracks

Both Traxsource and TIDAL have pledged to crack down on AI-generated music on their respective platforms by implementing new detection tools.

Earlier this week, TIDAL, the self-described "artist-first, fan-centred" music streaming platform, announced the introduction of a new policy that will automatically tag entirely AI-generated music.

Music that impersonates an artist or is deemed "fraudulent" will be blocked from earning royalties as part of the new AI policy that was revealed on Monday, June 29.

"No royalties will go to such releases, nor will AI-generated uploads be eligible for direct-to-fan sales," they said. "TIDAL’s priority is ensuring royalties go to original works directly produced, written, and performed by people."

TIDAL also confirmed that it will not pay royalties for music that is wholly AI-generated, and that "AI-generated uploads will not be eligible for direct-to-fan sales".

Similarly, this week, Traxsource, the digital music marketplace for electronic music, also revealed that it will label AI-made music across the platform.

As of Wednesday, July 1, music on Traxsource will be tagged as either "human-made" or "AI-assisted". The platform has partnered with two AI detection companies, SH Labs and SoundPatrol, to "support the identification and classification of music submitted to the platform".

"We realise that everything that got us here came from strong convictions and the guts to act on them," says Traxsource co-founder and managing director, Brian Tappert.

"We do not believe AI is going away. Everything we're doing is about finding a way to live with it, and making sure the value stays where it belongs, with human-created works."
