Top Boy is reportedly returning for at least two more seasons

Netflix is reviving another cult TV favourite

Netflix has secured the rights to Top Boy and is set to commission two new series of the gritty UK drama that depicts East London gang life, according to the Radio Times.

Top Boy originally aired on Channel 4 across 2011 to 2013, but was not renewed by the network after this initial run.

In April 2016 starring actor Ashley Walters, who plays gang leader Dushane, strongly hinted at the show’s return in an Instagram post, and now an announcement from Netflix is reportedly imminent confirming the rumours.

Drake, who has described the show as “just too good”, is reportedly involved in the revival, as is Skepta. In a 2016 interview with Complex, Ashley Walters spoke about plans for Top Boy’s return, saying: “Drake is involved. He’s coming on board to help and try and push the situation forward. We’ll see what happens!”

As The Fader reported, Skepta spoke with Zane Lowe on Beats 1 radio, saying: “Even with the Top Boy series with Ashley Walters... I’ve been talking like on the creative direction wave with Drake about the series. Making greatness with it. The whole style of what’s going on in London, the sound, is real. It’s an actual thing that actually happened. So it deserves to be on the telly.”
