Tokyo club Air is shutting down

Much-loved Tokyo club Air has announced it is to close permanently at the end of this year.

The Japanese institution has become a world-renowned spot for quality house and techno in its 14 years of operation. In the past couple of months alone DJs such as Daniel Avery, Jay Daniel, DVS1 and Prins Thomas have passed through its doors to play parties.

No reason has been provided for the decision, with a statement on the club's website simply announcing: "It has been decided that Air will see its final party on New Year's Eve. From all of the staff at Air, thank you so much for your support over the years. We will endeavor to bring you the best parties right up until we close."

The statement ends on a hopeful note, hinting at a possible new venture: "We look forward to being able to dance with you all again in a new space some day. We'll dance together in the future!"
