The Home Office is trialling a new "digital nightlife ID"

Forgetting your ID on a night out could no longer be an issue

Buying alcohol and getting into a club could become a lot easier for people in the UK as the Home Office trial a new digital ID.

Using AI-powered verification, the digital ID could be replacing driver’s licences and passports within the next year.

The 1account app allows you to put in your details and generate a for of ID on your smartphone and is currently being accepted at Tru Nightclub in Camberley until the end of June.

By comparing your driver’s license or passport photo with a selfie, the app can use your facial features to confirm your identity along with personal data.

1account is also aiming to create stand-alone digital IDs and according to iNews with the founder and chief executive, Ben Keirle saying: “The number of photo IDs left in the location after a night out is significant, and not only is a passport expensive to replace, it’s risky to lose in terms of identity theft”.

“Using digital IDs will also help door staff to get customers inside the 750 person-capacity club more quickly.”

The Home Office is trialling this not only at the Surrey-based club but are also looking into applying it to purchasing alcohol as supermarkets such as Tesco, ASDA and Morrisons will also introduce AI-powered software which can predict whether shoppers are over the age of 18.
