The nightclub that let a horse inside has had its license revoked

"It’s not tolerable, not right, not humane.”

Last week a nightclub in Miami called the Mokai Lounge let someone riding a full-grown horse into the venue, which resulted in an investigation. Now it’s been confirmed that the city has revoked the club’s license.

Immediately following the incident, cell phone footage surfaced of a woman in a bikini riding into a nightclub on a horse. This ignited outrage from the public on social media, as the scene was captured when the obviously frightened animal began to buck the woman off in attempt to escape the crowded, loud room.

One Facebook user wrote, "they're lucky nobody including the horse was seriously injured or killed.”

Later a petition was launched requesting for the venue to be shut down. Then on Friday, City Manager Jimmy Morales revoked Mokai’s business license, providing sufficient evidence by citing the city’s animal cruelty laws and calling the incident a threat to public safety, according to the Miami Herald.

Morales commented that he was extremely surprised someone actually let the horse into a nightclub: “I was disgusted and offended that any legitimate businessperson would think this was an appropriate action to take. This activity was not permitted, and as soon as we became aware, I immediately instructed staff to act swiftly in remedying this situation.”

Mayor Dan Gelber supported the decision to revoke the license as well: “What kind of idiot would do something like this to an animal and endanger people’s lives at that club? It’s not tolerable, not right, not humane.”

With regards to the horse, local authorities released a statement when they found the animal: “Miami Dade PD’s animal experts have located the horse that was at Mokai. The horse has been inspected and deemed to be healthy and safe.”
