HBO's The Last Of Us episode one features classic Depeche Mode track
'Never Let Me Down Again' can be heard during the end credits of the video game adaptation
Yesterday (January 15), the first episode of HBO’s The Last Of Us TV adaptation aired on HBO in the USA and late last night (January 16) on Sky Atlantic in the UK, and is now available to catch up on HBO Max in the US and NOW in the UK.
The series is created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, with the latter serving as the co-director and writer of the original Naughty Dog produced game The Last of Us, released in 2013 and its sequel The Last Of Us Part II.
While episode one has seen positive reviews – its Rotten Tomatoes score is 96% – many viewers have been asking about The Last Of Us’ music, especially at the end of the episode.

Playing on the radio over the end credits is Depeche Mode’s 1987 classic ‘Never Let Me Down Again’ from the band’s sixth album ‘Music for the Masses’.
The choice of song is likely to have implications for the plot in the next episode, which is due to air next Sunday January 22 at 9:PM ET in the USA (2:AM GMT, Monday 23 in the UK). We won’t spoil the reasons why for you, but you can click here to find out more.
The rest of the soundtrack is a mixture of original music from Gustavo Santaolalla, who composed the music for The Last Of Us video game, and songs picked out to complement the scores.

On top of the Depeche Mode track, the first episode also featured ‘Tomorrow’ by Avril Lavigne and Dido’s ‘White Flag’.
Following Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie, the nine-part TV series follows the pair through a post-apocalyptic world, after an outbreak of a deadly fungus pandemic leads to a collapse of society.
