Founder of Lollapalooza "hates EDM" and wants to "vomit it out of his nostrils"

Perry Farrell's got some strong words for the EDM genre

Perry Farrell, the founder of Lollapalooza Festival and frontman for the band Jane's Addiction, had some sour words for the current EDM culture in his latest interview.

Speaking to the Chicago Tribune about his festival, the New York-native explained that things haven't turned out quite the way he intended. And who's to blame for the downward spiral? Farrell points his finger at EDM.

"I can't stand what it did to what I love, which is house music, which was meditative, psychedelic - it took you on a journey... I sometimes cringe at my own festival."

The self-made star and singer started Lollapalooza 25 years ago. Now, the event is a multimillion-dollar behemoth based in Chicago with global offsets throughout the year. Farrell proclaims it now may be time for him to let go of what started as an alternative music festival, which has more recently become mainstream and heavily influenced by the "EDM" he so vehemently despises.

Farrell went on to nod to the definite necessity to host certain popular genres, but promised that his future projects will strictly turn electronic dance music away.

"I hate EDM," he concluded. "I want to vomit it out of my nostrils."

Tell us how you really feel, Perry.
