​Teklife commemorates 10th anniversary of DJ Rashad’s death with global event series

Chicago footwork label Teklife is set to commemorate the 10th anniversary of DJ Rashad’s death with a global event series spanning four cities.

The memorial events will go ahead on both April 26 and 27 in Hong Kong, Chicago, London, and New York, the label announced on the Teklife website earlier this week.

“This month marks the 10th anniversary of DJ Rashad's passing, and we are inviting everyone worldwide to celebrate during the last weekend of April 2024,” they explained.

On April 26, events will take place in both Hong Kong and Chicago, as well as a show at London’s Jazz Cafe hosting DJ Spinn, Scratcha DVA and a B2B set from Bok Bok and Ikonika.

“Celebrating the life of DJ Rashad, one of the most game-changing producers and influential pioneers that have ever graced the craft of electronic dance music,” The Jazz Cafe wrote on Instagram on Tuesday.

“10 years on since his tragic passing, we bring together a selection of artists on Friday 26 April to help celebrate the incredible legacy left behind by the Teklife founder and footwork visionary.”

Elsewhere on April 26, Hong Kong’s Social Room will see a performance from Teklife’s own DJ Paypal, while SubT Lounge in Chicago is set to host Initial G, DJ Acey, and DJ Lucky.

On April 27, Teklife is set to host its final memorial party at New York’s Market Hotel with sets from DJ Manny, DJ Haram and Traxman.

The events mark 10 years since the passing of DJ Rashad, who passed away aged 34 from a fatal drug overdose. Rashad helped to found Teklife alongside DJ Spinn, and was known for his pioneering efforts in the production of footwork.
