Synkro - 8/10
Changes (Apollo)
When Joe McBride isn't releasing muscular drumstep as one-half of Akkord, he's working on the comparitively low-slung electronica of his Synkro moniker.
His solo EPs have ranged between the more idyllic side of Boards Of Canada's IDM to the minimal bass of dBridge and ASC.
His debut album leans more towards the latter, with analogue synths and digitalised snares used to create futuristic depth.
So far, so great, and while it might lack some originality, it compensates with its crisp production. The vocals tracks could perhaps have been switched out for some of his prior instrumentals, but it's still a strong release.
