Stormzy’s Brit Award callout prompts a response from Downing Street
"We urge the government to be held accountable for the fuckery"
The man of the hour in the UK at the moment, grime artist Stormzy took home the award for Best British Male Solo Artist at the 2018 Brit Awards.
During the artist’s performance at the award ceremony, Stormzy stole the show with a politically charged moment after he called out UK prime minister Theresa May for her lack of action in the Grenfell tower fire - a tragedy which resulted in the death of 71 people.
Following the performance, Theresa May and her conservative cohorts put out a statement about Stormzy’s chilling freestyle performance.
“The PM has been clear that what happened at Grenfell was an unimaginable tragedy, which should never be allowed to happen again,” said a Downing Street spokesman. “She is determined the public inquiry will discover not just what went wrong but why the voices of the people of Grenfell had been ignored for so many years… The prime minister did say that the initial response was too slow and that is something for the public inquiry to look at. I’m not getting into responding to individual comments – I’m pointing out the gravity with which the PM is taking this.”

Nile Rodgers, the legendary musician who was tasked with handing Stormzy the award, said on Matt Wilkinson’s Beats 1 show that he felt "a sense of pride" about the moment and praised Stormzy for using his position to speak out about the incident.
This is not the first time Stormzy has expressed his anger around the Grenfell Tower fire. At Glastonbury, the artist spoke out and said, "we urge the government to be held accountable for the fuckery."
