Spokes

Spokes is an integral member of Coyote Records, the London label consistently serving up totally bizarre and weirded out grime instrumentals. It's that sheer thinking-outside-of-the-box output that makes it so attractive to us and exactly why it made its way into our best labels of 2015 list.

Coyote's finest moment so far is probably Last Japan's 'Ascend', a sharp and shimmering production with AJ Tracey on vocals, and the label really found someone special in Letta who released the first album, 'Testimony', last year.

We first came across London-based Spokes in 2015 when he provided us with 'Cold Logic', a stone-cold banger teeming with hyperactivity. Soon after that, he delivered 'Green Eyes', his first EP for Coyote. In that, we had the tip-toeing 'Lo Pan Strikes', the ghoulishly creeping 'Mutations' and the boisterous 'Ritalin' which came with a remix from E.M.M.A.

As Coyote continues its ascension (the label recently debuted at fabric), Spokes is gearing up for EP number two, 'Flight', after his track ‘Tragedy In The Jasmine Garden’ on 'Boxed 001' last December. Before his EP's out, we're premiering 'Mercurial', yet another space-age instrumental. The melodies are out of control, the bass grumbles hard but, somehow, you can't help feel like it's massaging your mind.

The 'Flight' EP is out on August 5 with a remix of the title track by Miami-based Marks and vocals from Anna Folwell on 'Failed State'. Pre-order it here
