Spectrasoul

Get a taste of their new label

Spectrasoul's last album, 'The Mistress', was an absolute stunner. Maybe the title came about because the duo were playing away from home, messing around with a few different styles and not just making tunes adhering to the straightforward drum 'n' bass sound they'd long been attached to.

Tracks like 'Real Good' and 'Hot Head, Rock Bed' saw David Kennett and Jack Stevens going downtempo, littering each of the cuts with heavy doses of soul-leaning spice. 'More To Give' with Tamara Blessa, premiered through our Gold feature, is in a similar vein, laced with erratic sizzles and juicy sounds.

Then again, the Shogun Audio affiliates have always experimented. Take 'Away With Me', from debut album 'Delay No More', for example. Again featuring Blessa, this is very much a woozy house jam, rather than a d'n'b roller like 'Memento' and 'Sometimes We Lie' from the same record.

It's their tendency to muck around with styles that's led to the launch of their label, Ish Chat Music. When announcing the news, the boys commented: "As artists, we have always written lots of different types of music. We wanted to create a vehicle to present some of those varied styles in a shorter format as opposed to an LP."

The steppy track shared first, '4URGH', proved that and now we premiere 'SM1' to showcase more of what they're offering us through their new platform. This one's a bit of a jungle-tinged tearer, full of squeaky vocal chops, winding sirens and rowdy bass punches. Basically, turn it up loud and get all of your frustrations out of your system. It'll work, trust us.

The 'Only You' EP is out on March 25 via Ish Chat Music. Pre-order it here
