Ushuaïa will take control of the site of Space Ibiza from 2017

Carl Cox revealed the news before his keynote speech at the Asia-Pacific Electronic Music Conference

What's next for the area in Playa d'en Bossa that Space is built on? Find out here

Carl Cox has confirmed that the people behind Ushuaïa will take control of the land Space Ibiza stands in 2017.

Earlier this month the DJ revealed that next summer will be his last at the Playa d'en Bossa venue and, ahead of speaking at the Asia-Pacific Electronic Music Conference in Sydney in December, has gone into detail why.

He told inthemix: "It's not that I'm walking away from the club, because Pepe [Rosello], the owner of Space, his contract is up at the club [in 2016]. He's going to be 80-years-old and will officially be out.

"It gets handed over to Ushuaïa Group across the road and its manager Jan will be given the keys to run Space. And once that happens, everything changes. So I have no desire to stay in that club for any reason."

Coxy went on to half-joke that he'd only play the venue if he was offered a million euros and that he'd be "smiling all the way to the bank... Playing all the records from Beatport" – yet another shot sent from a big name DJ toward selectors who only seem to play the digital music retailer's top 10.

Fat chance of that happening though as he doesn't wish to damage the Space legacy he helped create for the last 15 years.

"My heart tells me I will not ever do that [play for the money] - because if Pepe's not there, I am not there. We grew up together, we've been all the way through this together, and we're going to finish together. And I'm quite happy about that, because it means we leave the legacy of a club that made a difference.

"We can walk away with that - the legendary status of what used to happen at Space when we were there - because no one else can emulate that, it's not possible."

The pair's last season will be next year, 2016, meaning it's all change from 2017. Note that Space will continue to operate as an international clubbing brand.

This summer saw the likes of David Guetta, Axwell & Ingrosso, Hardwell, Armin van Buuren and Avicii hold residencies at Ushuaïa, with Calvin Harris, The Prodigy, Steve Angello and Disclosure also playing there.
