Sony unveils affordable Virtual Reality option

The headset is due out later this year

Sony is set to enter the Virtual Reality market with a new device that pairs with the PS4 to add a new dimension to gameplay.

The company unveiled the PlayStation VR at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco this week, announcing it will be released in the second half of 2016.

Priced at $399, it presents a more affordable option than current headsets on the market such as the Occulus Rift and HTC’s Vive.

Andrew House, Sony’s president and global chief executive, said: “PlayStation VR represents a transformative experience in gaming, and we wanted to take the time needed to launch with a broad variety of content and a sufficient supply of hardware.

“The full promise of PlayStation VR will continue to grow over time as talented developers create new experiences and new genres that wouldn’t be possible outside of VR. The future looks bright indeed.”
