This past weekend, Mamby on the Beach in Chicago made a triumphant 2017 return, welcoming a larger crowd and a thoughtfully curated cross-genre lineup.
Top billings on the Main and Park stages included Flying Lotus, MGMT, Todd Terje and the Olsens, Miike Snow, Sango and Thundercat. In the Mixmag tent, fans were literally dug their feet into the sand while dancing to MK, Green Velvet, DJ Heather, Justin Martin, Justin Jay, Latmun and more. Between the beach volleyball and the sunbathing bodies, you might just forget you're on a midwestern beach looking out across Lake Michigan.
Mamby has managed to create an environment that is appealing to the more mellow adult festival-goer and the 18-year-old electronic music fan alike. Maybe it's the beach-vibes with an impeccable skyline view, or the perfect blend of live-electronic, hip hop and dance music; there's something about Mamby that makes it feel like an essential festival for the city of Chicago.
