Skream and Benga are teaming back up in 2022

The dubstep pioneers are bringing back some ol’ faithful bangers

Dubstep trailblazers Benga and Skream are linking back up this year for the first time in almost two decades.

“The boys are back in town…. Skream X Benga 2.0..... 2022 we’re having it,” Oliver Jones, AKA Skream, tweeted at the end of December.

Jones confirmed that this might not be the old school dubstep collaboration many were hoping for, adding on Instagram: “No throw back, brand new music only”.

The Croydon boys last linked up in 2003 where they released ‘The Judgement’, later collaborating again in 2011 on their own BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix.

Skream has also been hot on the keyboard over the last few weeks ahead of his New Zealand tour teasing the idea of giving his renowned 140 BPM tracks another whirl and even dropped an old school dubstep mix featuring tracks from Mala, Coki, Benga, and co just ahead of Christmas.

“Auckland gang….. This was never a planned thing but the question came up and when I think about the special moments I’ve had here over the years the answer was obvious,” he posted on Instagram in December.

“This is the only date I’ll be playing 140/dubstep on this tour... Super excited as I made shit loads of new 140 productions over the lockdown,” he continued, adding a promo photo for the January gig.

Since their last collaboration, Benga has maintained a low profile - releasing his last full-length record, ‘Chapter II’, in 2013.

Meanwhile, Skream’s self-titled debut album turned 15 years old in 2021. During the same year, the producer also dropped an exclusive eight-track unreleased record featuring adaptions of old school classics such as ‘Lemon’ and ‘Midnight Request Line’.
